POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of sonographers, performs a variety of duties in ultrasound imaging. Assists the radiologist in performing ultrasound-guided biopsies or interventional procedures. These duties include, but are not limited to preparing the ultrasound scan room, equipment, supplies, and medications. Assists the sonographer by transporting patients as needed, sitting with para/thora patients, and performing clerical duties. Performs ultrasound exams on patients and assists the Lead Sonographer or designee by completing exams in HIS/RIS. Assists with verifying exams in PACS to get the images ready for dictation. This role will also involve obtaining patient information for filling out worksheets, ordering lab work or other clerical duties as required. Performs a variety of duties in performing ultrasound imaging. Performs initial interpretation and evaluation of procedure. Maintains standards of quality. Operates ultrasound equipment, prepares scanning room, equipment, supplies and medications. Assists patient services using imaging modalities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must be a graduate of or currently enrolled in an approved school of Sonography that meets requirements to sit for the certification test given by the ARDMS. Transcripts are required for proof of current program enrollment or graduation. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of personnel at all levels within and external to organization. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly with, and care for, a diverse population of patients/family units of all ages, variety of cultures, etc. 
  • Flexible in work schedule, assignments and work load. 
  • Ability to document clinical information, etc. 
  • Ability to interpret the policies and procedures of South Georgia Medical Center, regulatory agencies’ standards and rules, reimbursement rules, etc. 
  • Strong clinical skills. 

WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION

Duties require considerable sitting, standing, stooping bending, lifting (in excess of 50 pounds), pushing objects (wheelchairs, stretchers). Comfortable conditions, subject to irregular schedules, including weekends, exposed to high levels of stress. Work may require exposure to communicable diseases.
