Schedule: , 8 HR Day Shift, 0800-1730

POSITION SUMMARY 

Performs the administrative and managerial functions of the Clinical Laboratories supporting inpatient and outpatient services. Supervises, coordinates, and evaluates systems and personnel responsible for all laboratory operations. Ensures that all departmental procedures are performed in accordance with established policy and procedures. Maintains communications between the laboratory and hospital administration, physicians and other hospital departments. Represents the laboratory at department meetings. This person is the Laboratory Manager of Smith Northview Clinical Laboratory and any doctors offices in Lowndes County who are hospital owned practices. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 

Graduate of an approved School of Medical Technology and/or is a certified Medical Technologists. Management or Business Degree is a plus. 3-5 years of direct laboratory management experience in a community hospital. Strong interpersonal, human resource, communication, public relations skills, and clinical skills. Must possess a valid and current driver’s license. 

WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION 

Modern hospital Laboratory. Work activities will include: light lifting (not to exceed 25 pounds), walking, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting and pushing objects. Must be able to operate office equipment, computer terminals and keyboards, and computerized lab equipment. Works with blood and body fluids where exposure to infections disease is a risk. Must have knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and training in handling of hazardous chemicals such as Xylene and Formaldehyde. Complies with biohazard/radiation safety standards and laboratory policy and procedures through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical, biological agents and/or radiation sources in the workplace. Uses universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens. Certain procedures will require knowledge in and the correct use of eye protection, face shields, gas masks, lab coats, and /or gloves (latex and nitrile)
