POSITION SUMMARY 

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Respiratory Therapist (PR RT) specializes in assisting patients with chronic respiratory conditions. The PR RT evaluates patients' pulmonary function and designs tailored rehabilitation programs to enhance their respiratory health and overall quality of life. This role requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care, including patient education, therapeutic exercises, and ongoing support for self-management of conditions. The PR RT is also responsible for monitoring patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed, and advocating for patient needs within the healthcare system. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a deep understanding of respiratory therapy, and a commitment to patient-centered practice. 

EDUCATION 

  • Candidates for the position of Pulmonary Rehabilitation Respiratory Therapist must possess an Associate's degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited program as a minimum educational qualification. Preference may be given to those with a Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field. 
  • All applicants must hold a valid and current Georgia Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license. 
  • Certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required. 
  • Continuing education is expected to stay current with the latest practices as designated by the AARC and AACVPR. 
EXPERIENCE 

  • Applicants must have a minimum of two years of clinical experience as a Respiratory Therapist, with at least one year in a pulmonary rehabilitation setting preferred. 
  • Experience in patient assessments, care plan development, and implementation of therapy programs is essential. 
  • Knowledge of and experience with cardiopulmonary diagnostics and therapeutic interventions are critical. 
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of effective multidisciplinary teamwork and excellent patient education skills. 
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. 
  • Epic and Scottcare electronic health record systems and proficiency in data analysis for tracking patient outcomes is desirable. 
  • Additional certification in Pulmonary Rehabilitation from the AARC is highly desirable. 
  • Additional experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a clinical setting is a plus. 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Working knowledge of regulatory, ethical, and professional standards in respiratory therapy.
  • Working knowledge of patient-centered communication and interdisciplinary collaboration within healthcare teams. 
  • General knowledge of health promotion, disease prevention strategies, and lifestyle factors affecting respiratory health.
  • General knowledge of basic pharmacology related to respiratory care and the role of physical activity in pulmonary function. 
  • Thorough knowledge of in-depth patient assessment techniques and individualized care plan development. 
  • Extensive knowledge of respiratory care equipment and technologies, including operational proficiency and troubleshooting. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of advanced cardiopulmonary physiology and pathophysiology for designing effective rehabilitation programs. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of latest research and evidence-based practices in pulmonary rehabilitation. 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Respiratory Therapy or related health science field. 
  • Certification in Pulmonary Rehabilitation from AARC. 
  • Additional certifications such as ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). 
  • More than three years of experience in pulmonary rehabilitation or a related clinical setting. 
  • Demonstrated leadership experience or roles in clinical settings. 
  • Published research or contributions to professional journals in the field of respiratory care or pulmonary rehabilitation. 
  • Participation in professional development courses and workshops related to advanced respiratory care practices.

This position requires the ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, which may include heavy lifting and extensive bending and standing. The role operates in the clinical setting. Candidates must be able to effectively communicate with patients, families, and team members.
