Schedule: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm rotating on call and call back

POSITION SUMMARY:

Acts as the assistant and a backup to the Phlebotomy; Client Services Clinical Manager and is in charge of the day to day activities when the Phlebotomy; Client Services Clinical Manager is not available. Works closely with manager to implement new processes and training of new phlebotomy staff. Sets goals with manager to recruit, interview, and make recommendations to fill personnel vacancies. Supports manager with work on schedules, client services issues and evaluations of staff. Ensure phlebotomy service staff and Team Leads maintain a positive client/patient-focused attitude. Provide on-site leadership to the Phlebotomy staff, who obtain and process specimens from inpatients and outpatients according to SGMC laboratory policy/procedures using correct sample identification and sufficient sample quantity for the performance of laboratory tests ordered by the physician who diagnoses. Shows skills at communication, organization, and problem resolution. Responsible for accurate entry of laboratory request, patient demographics, and billing information using the hospital and Lab registration systems. Public Relations representative from the Laboratory to the Laboratory's customers. Perform departmental support activities as directed by Phlebotomy; Client Services Clinical Manager. Maintains existing business with current outside clients and physicians and assists in bringing new clients and Physicians on board. Responsible for improving customer service and satisfaction with laboratory services. In addition to these responsibilities, Phlebotomy/Client Services Coordinator will function as a regular productive member of the laboratory, under the guidance and supervision of the Phlebotomy; Client Services Clinical Manager and/or the Laboratory Director. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Meets requirements for position as defined by CLIA 88 standards and the Georgia Laboratory Licensure law (O. C. G. A. 31-20). 
  • High school graduate or GED preferred. 
  • Has an Associate's Degree in either Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Assisting, or related science field. 
  • Prior management/supervisory experience or manager training strongly preferred. 
  • Current in CPR. 
  • Must be flexible in their work schedule.
  • Competence in phlebotomy, registration, general office skills, and medical terminology and Microsoft office products. 
  • Certification by one of the following national accrediting agencies in phlebotomy: ASCP, AMT, ASPT, NPA, MedCA, NCCT, or ACA is required. 
  • Demonstrates manual dexterity, specifically hand-eye coordination. 
  • The ability to perform under pressure, good judgement, and excellent critical reasoning skills are essential. 
  • Must possess a valid and current Georgia driver’s license. 
  • Demonstrate accuracy, and attention to detail. 
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, but frequent walking is also involved. 
  • Effective communication skills in dealing with the public, physicians and other hospital staff required. 
  • Temperament suited to short cycle repetitive work. 
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide phlebotomy for laboratory testing appropriate to the age of the patient's seen in their assigned area. 
  • Must be able to assess and interpret data or signs about the patient's status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide the care needed by our patient groups (i. e. , neo-nate, pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric). Normal color vision is necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS- ADA INFORMATION: 

Modern hospital Laboratories with access to patient areas and physician offices. Work activities will include: light lifting (not to exceed 25 pounds), walking, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, and pushing objects. Must be about to operate office equipment, computer terminals and keyboards, computerized lab equipment and an automobile. Must be about to perform CPR.
