POSITION SUMMARY 

This position is vital in ensuring the safe and effective operation of diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment through planned maintenance, repairs, calibration, and installation. The Biomedical Technician will collaborate with clinical and operational staff to maintain high patient care standards. This position reports directly to the Director of Biomedical Services. Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure biomedical devices meet regulatory requirements and quality standards. 
  • Diagnose and repair equipment issues using relevant scientific knowledge. 
  • Participate in on-call service to address urgent equipment needs. 
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment repairs, maintenance, and inspections. 
  • Communicate effectively with clinical staff to resolve operational problems. 
  • Perform planned maintenance on various medical equipment according to guidelines. 
  • Work effectively in a team to monitor, resolve, and escalate equipment issues. 
  • Provide status reports, gather department requirements, and provide input on equipment purchases/services. 
  • Process service request calls and tickets - from scheduling to completion. 
  • Conduct inventory inspections and request necessary parts, supplies, and instruments. 
EDUCATION: An Associate's degree in medical electronics, electronic technology, or a related field (or equivalent military experience) is preferred. 

EXPERIENCE: One to two years of experience performing medical equipment maintenance is preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Active Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) Certification is preferred. 
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and field-specific test equipment. 
  • Understanding of relevant regulations (OSHA, NFPA, HIPAA) related to the Biomedical and Health Care industries. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. 
  • Ability to diagnose and repair equipment issues effectively. 
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills. 
  • Self-starter who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. 
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite) and ability to read schematics/drawings. 
WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION 

Physical effort/lifting (the ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted). This position will sometimes require working weekends and nights or being on-call as a regular part of the job. Travel between campus and clinic locations will be required, so a valid Driver's License for the state of Georgia will be required.
