DISPATCHER, SPECIALTY CARE TRANSPORT

Department: SPECIALTY CARE TRANSPORT
Schedule: Full Time, Varied Hours/Shift, (2) 12 hour shifts/(2) 8 hour shifts per week

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Dispatcher is a critical conduit of information between all customers and stakeholders of SGMC Health Specialty Care Transport (SCT). The Dispatcher utilizes computer-aided dispatching software, 2-way radios, and telephones, as well as other modes for technology to answer, triage, and schedule transports for the SCT Division. The Dispatcher utilizes GPS mapping software to monitor and follow transports to ensure the safe and timely delivery of patients and crews to their destinations. The Dispatcher must be available to work up to 12-hour rotating shifts while allowing for 10 hours of rest prior to shift and attend all required training and education programs as required by the department or organization. 

EDUCATION 

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. 

EXPERIENCE 

• Experience as a dispatcher or EMT strongly preferred. 
• Must have excellent customer service and service recovery skills. 

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. 
• Working knowledge of telephone systems and telephone etiquette. 
• Working knowledge of the functioning and maintenance of 2-way radio systems, or the ability to learn. 
• Thorough knowledge of basic medical terminology and the ability to triage requests based on scripted questions and answers. 

• NREMT Basic or higher preferred. 

Works in acute care hospital, non-clinical office setting. Considerable sitting, standing, stooping, or bending. May occasionally require long, irregular or flexible work hours. Mental effort to assess, to plan and make or recommend decisions in complex environment. Vision, hearing, and comprehension requirements to see computer screens, hear telephone and radio communication via headset, and comprehend process incoming and outgoing information.
