Schedule: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, 0830-1700

POSITION SUMMARY 

Works in the CVI Medical Office setting and posting cardiovascular surgical cases, by OR specific codes and block, maintains historical data from patient OR record, and has the ability to research and recall billing/patient information as requested by management and the business office. The function of the Surgical Scheduler is the completion of the daily surgical schedule through effective leadership, cooperation of staff, and to minimize surgical delays. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: scheduling for a multi-physician practice of daily CVI surgical procedures; coordinating necessary auxiliary staff needed for each surgeon; ensuring that each surgical case has all the proper consents needed for each procedure and in addition is required to take ownership in contacting departments, medical offices and facilities for consultations, labs, CD’s, H & P’s and all medical records required for each procedure; maintain, store and export all documentation in Practice EHR; daily review of all upcoming surgical cases for accuracy and documentation completion; daily communication with physicians and mid-level providers for all upcoming surgical cases. Confidentiality is mandatory. 

Areas of accountability for the CVI Surgical Scheduler, are outlined as follows: 

  • Completion of daily surgical schedule in a timely, safe and efficient manner 
  • Provides assistance to surgeons through provision of adequately prepared OR documentation. 
  • Delegates duties to professional, technical and ancillary personnel. 
  • Provides education opportunities to increase knowledge of personnel. 
  • Daily review and communication of all upcoming surgical cases. 
  • May assist surgeons with surgical procedures performed in office or hospital setting. 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Education/Certification ⚬ High school diploma or GED preferred. ⚬ Completion of course of study for medical terminology is preferred 
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. 
  • Flexible in work schedule, assignments, and work load. 
  • Ability to understand and follow the policies and procedures of South Georgia Medical Center and regulatory agencies’ standards and rules. 
WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION 

Modern, well-lighted, air-conditioned, general office area. Moderate/High stress level. Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned essential functions of this position description is the following physical requirements: ability to sit, stand or walk for moderate periods; reading of printed material; listening to physicians, mid-level providers, patients, and staff; verbally responding to patients and staff; moderately heavy lifting {0-25lbs.}, reaching, stooping, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting. Must be organized, self-motivated, and able to work independent of direct supervision to carry out responsibilities. Mental effort required to assess, plan and make or recommend decisions in complex high stress environment. Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
