POSITION SUMMARY 

The Patient Care Technician II is a member of the patient care team who provides direct personal care to patients and assists with ADLs. The PCT II also assists the Registered Nurses (RNs) with patient care tasks and procedures, assists with equipment and supply maintenance, and performs complex clerical and unit-based duties. All competencies/job duties listed may not be implemented in every nursing unit due to the variation of services and care provided. 

EDUCATION 

  • High School graduate or equivalent strongly preferred. 
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred. 
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification required. 
EXPERIENCE 

  • Direct patient care experience in a hospital setting or physician office preferred. 
  • Experience as a phlebotomist or medical assistant preferred. 
  • General office skills, including experience with computer systems, and medical terminology is preferred. 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as individually on assigned tasks. 
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and uphold HIPPA guidelines. 
  • Working knowledge of basic office equipment including computer, fax machine, telephone system, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION 

Works primarily in moderate to fast-paced hospital setting. Generally assigned to consistent shift and unit but may be required to be temporarily re-assigned to meet organizational needs. Requires moderate to frequent lifting (excess of 50 lbs), bending, and assisting in same, using correct techniques. Requires extensive walking during shift. Likely to be exposed to blood and body fluids and infectious diseases on a daily basis. Uses general office equipment in performance of duties, including but not limited to computers, computerized lab equipment, printers, fax, telephone & nurse call systems. Interacts daily with persons under stress, having complex complaints, and/or with whom there is a need to respond to questions, problems, or gain cooperation.
